Get creative with your marketing during a recession.
Third Person, Inc. serves as an example with its guerrilla marketing campaign.
MILWAUKEE, WI – Hopefully, we all know by now that slashing marketing and advertising budgets is not the best idea for dealing with challenging economic times. With that said, though, sometimes there just isn't another option.
When you have no choice but to cut advertising and marketing expenses, it's important to know that you can still get results from a limited budget... You just have to get creative.
Consider trying guerrilla marketing.
Guerrilla marketing is an unconventional system of promotions, running on a very low budget, by relying on time, energy and imagination instead of big marketing budgets. Typically, guerrilla marketing is unexpected and unconventional, where consumers are targeted where they would not be expecting, which can make the idea that's being marketed memorable, generate buzz, and even spread virally. Third Person, Inc. recently conducted its own guerrilla marketing campaign.
We started by taking a hard look at our target audience — small business owners, and marketing and sales professionals at small to large businesses, especially in the metro Milwaukee area. By conducting Experience Mapping research, we learned that a majority of our target market has something in common — business travel.
We then took a good look at how, when and where business professionals travel. Where do they go? What do they do when they travel?
From this, we created a unique guerrilla campaign that provided free magazines to business travelers at airports, train stations, etc. that featured stickers with a quick promotional message about Third Person.
This campaign cost less than $300.00 to create, produce, and implement. And, in return we've garnered two leads so far... That's not bad — especially when you consider that we'd normally spend at least $2,000 on a print ad to get similar results!
